AgriGator Banner History

-----

The AgriGator was first brought up on September 11, 1994. It sported this banner:

The first incarnation had a wood motif. (That's why some old icons tucked away here and there still have wood backgrounds -- yes, there was a purpose.) Swamps, docks, etc. were the graphics of the day.

As you can see, high hopes were expected for wider screen resolutions for this short-lived banner. We kinda liked the "dark mood gator," but we didn't want to scare anyone off with it.

This was the previous banner. A new version of a graphics program allowed for the water affect, which we thought very cool. (Figuring out other options in the same program allowed for the "advanced water affect" you see in the next banner.) And Hoops the Alligator (explained in a minute) was given a more realistic texture.

This is the current banner. Transparent backgrounds became the norm, instead of hard-coded, artificial grey. The swamp grass and gator motif have remained about the same all along -- hey, you have to keep something consistent while things change! P.S. Why "Hoops" the Alligator? Because its texture comes from a pattern -- named Basketball!

Odds and Ends

This wasn't a banner, but a clickable map that we had planned to use on the AgriGator page. It was retired in favor of the quicker-to-download text you see today.

This was Gassie, our original "this site is under construction" mascot.

This was a severe case of cart-before-the-horse. These images were developed with intent to use them on either the IFAS home page or the AgriGator home page. Unfortunately, they don't make good banners, because a) they're large; b) they're longer than wide; c) they're large; d) text did not wrap around a graphic back then; and e) they're large. But hey, we were just starting out, and we didn't know any better.
