FLORIDA AG TAG
Frequently Asked Questions & Ordering Instructions
Q. Does my state or country have an AG TAG available?
A. To find this answer you will need to contact your local office that issues license plates. You can also check by visiting the License Plates of the World web site.
Q. What is the Florida Ag Tag for?
A. The Florida Ag Tag is a specialty license plate for your vehicle or trailer, which provides a way to contribute to the Florida Agriculture in the Classroom program which teaches Florida citizens about the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.
Q. How much does it cost per year?
A. The plate costs just $22 per year more than a regular issue Florida license plate when you renew your tag. $20 of the helps the program, while $2 covers the DHSMV's administrative costs.
Q. What is my normal registration cost?
A. The base cost for registering a personal vehicle in Florida depends on vehicle or trailer weight (see order form for details, and call your tax collector to confirm the fee before submitting your request).
Q. What does the initial plate cost, if I have a valid plate now?
A. You may turn in your valid license plate, prior to your normal renewal date, for credit toward the Ag Tag and only pay a total of $38.60. This fee is good until your next birthday, then you renew at normal cost.
Q. Can I personalize my tag?
A. Yes, with up to 7 characters. You must check with you county license plate agency to reserve a unique set of characters. The extra fee is $12.00. Please note spaces count as characters.
Q. What are some examples of personalized plates?
A. Before you select your plate you may want to check out one example or another example of what others have put on their vanity plates. Other sites providing information about vanity plates in use can be found at Vanity Plates, Dictionary of Custom License Plate Terms, and What Does That Mean? The Personal Stories Behind Vanity License Plates.
Q. Can anything be put on my license plate?
A. No. There are limitations that vary by state. Check out The GR8 debate over vanity license plates.
Q. Where can I get specific cost info?
A. Contact your local tax collector's office. They can give you details about ordering a plate and the specific cost for your situation. Specialty plates are not available for motorcycles and an extra fee applies to recreational vehicles (e.g., campers).
Q. What else do I need to send?
A. Be sure to include proof of insurance (a copy of your insurance card, policy or binder) and a copy of your vehicle registration (or renewal notice). If your county requires an emissions inspection, include a "pass" certificate.
Q. Where do I send this form, the necessary attachments, and my fee?
A. Your local tax collector will process the request. Their address is generally found in the special section of the phone book for government agencies, or you can look at our Internet site (http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/offices/) under the tax collector link on the order form.
